Mamas Move Mamas Move Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:15:25 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Exercising Benefits for Women Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:15:25 +0000 Due to the growing research of exercise and the benefits it has on the body, our culture is well aware exercising helps with weight loss, lower blood pressure, and better sleep. But did you know there are multiple benefits in addition to these? While it’s always fun to fit into those jeans from younger days, we want to give you more great reasons to hit the gym. Let’s look into some little known facts regarding your personal health, and the ‘what’s in it for you’ concept.

dreamstime_xxl_26622309Remember Where You Put Your Keys

Studies have shown remarkable evidence that regular exercise helps your body and mind function, which decreases your risk of developing dementia. Specifically, classes like Zumba, Barre, or Yoga target memory by teaching you moves, which exercises your memory and concentration while you sweat it out.

Lift Your Libido

Of course we can agree it feels good to workout. Hard work brings a satisfaction that often seeps into the rest of our day. Did you know though, working out can actually increase your sex drive? Studies have shown just 20 minutes of exercise a day improves our sexual response. Because of those adrenaline ‘feel good’ hormones, you can leave feeling energized, encouraged and confident about your body. In addition, regular cardio or aerobic activity can increase your stamina and mood.

Less Acnedreamstime_xxl_37090412

Contrary to popular belief, exercising is extremely beneficial to keeping acne away. By increasing the blood flow to your skin, you body is able to better control the hormones that cause acne, known as DHEA and DHT. Also, when you sweat the pores on your face are able to open up and get unclogged. Keep in mind however, you should never workout with makeup on! Once you’re finished with working out, have either a wipe or a face wash that is fragrance free. This will help remove dirt from your pores. Above all, stay hydrated!

While these are only a few additional benefits, it’s worth considering grabbing your gym bag and water bottle. At Mama’s Move, we offer fun classes that get you moving and work you memory and body. If you’re looking to spice up your routine, check out our classes! We offer Yoga, barre, hip-hop cardio barre, PIYO and much more! Exercising When You’re Expecting Fri, 15 Jul 2016 17:35:28 +0000 Being pregnant can be a wonderful time in your life. However, keeping in shape and having the energy to rock the day can be challenging. Here at Mamas Move, we specialize in women’s fitness and have a core focus on you enjoying pregnancy workouts. Our certified instructors are ready to help you get the most out of your workout. We have the tools, staff, and setting to give you the best workout regimen ever! However, coming in and signing up is the first step. Maybe you need a little bit of motivation. Here is a list of why exercising during pregnancy can be beneficial for you:

  • Stress Relief- Exercise, in general, is great for boosting a person’s mood. During pregnancy, women may experience a spike in stress and mood swings. When you workout, your body increases production of serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical in your body that affects mood and social behavior. Everyone likes feeling better, so why not boost yours today?
  • Pain Relief- Being in good shape helps ease aches and pains associated with pregnancy. This comes from two factors- One, your muscles are better, lending more support against the stress of childbearing. Second, increasing flexibility (try our yoga!) helps with soreness and circulation issues. Mamas Move wants to make sure you’re at your healthiest and happiest!
  • More Sleep- Pregnancy brings a variety of factors that can sap your sleep cycles. From the above physical discomforts to chemical changes causing insomnia, you need your rest. Exercise is beneficial due to the comfort derived from healthy, used muscles. Another great (and obvious) benefit would be your increase of sleep from being tired due to our awesome fitness classes.
  • More Energy- Perhaps most importantly, increasing your energy while creating life can be beneficial in many ways. Pregnancy can drain energy levels and prevent you from hitting the gym, creating a vicious cycle.  Our women’s fitness professionals are eager to help you get/stay fit and retain the energy needed to take on the day!

Every person wants to look and feel great. Being pregnant shouldn’t slow you down. Mamas Move is here to help! We specialize in pre and postnatal exercises and are ready to help you reach your fitness goals. Motivation is key when attaining those goals and can make-or-break your plans. It can be hard to do it alone, and with us, you won’t have to! Contact us today with any questions and sign up now!

Maximizing Your Child’s Potential Fri, 08 Jul 2016 18:23:15 +0000 As a new mother, you want the best for your child. This includes enriching his/her life with play, music, art, and exercise. Mamas Move offers classes for toddlers, babies, and even kindergartners. These are the formative years, and starting on the right foot is paramount for your offspring’s success. Today we will focus on how art/music activities, socializing, and exercising will give your young one the tools become an amazing person.

Arts and Music

Research has consistently shown that learning music and practicing art spills into improving other facilities in children’s lives. In essence, experiencing music taps into all categories of development for kids. All humans benefit from music in the area of memory but young children can use it as a tool to become more adept at improving language, honing motor skills, and self-expression. Listening to and playing music helps the body communicate more efficiently and can bring a huge boost to fluid intelligence. Our art classes for kids mimic all of these benefits also, just with the substitution of visual creativity instead of audible learning.

As humans, we thrive on social interaction. We know the importance of tailoring classes for kids to promote healthy social learning. Children learn and model after what they perceive to be proper daily interactions between other kids and adults. Socialization is the process we all go through to learn norms, values, and habits. Mamas Move offers toddler activities that promote the development of social skills. Not only will you enjoy our amazing facilities, your child will enjoy their education during these formative years.

Teaching young children about the importance of exercise is one of our top priorities. Kids who exercise will benefit from numerous physical rewards, such as stronger muscles and bones, a better immune system, more energy, and a happier outlook. In the long run, teaching your youngin about proper fitness practices can promote a lifelong benefit of being healthier.

You want the best for your child. Mamas Move also wants this and offers baby classes, classes for toddlers, and preschool/kindergarten classes. Whether you are exercising with your kid or utilizing our drop-in daycare, we work to enrich their lives through proper mental stimulation and socialization. Mamas Move strives to maximize the potential of both you and your child. Give us a call to learn more today!

Fueling Your Workout Part 2 Thu, 30 Jun 2016 13:09:23 +0000 Last week we introduced the notion of blending healthy smoothies to help with your fitness program. To reiterate, moms are busy! The task of completing exercise routines during pregnancy can require a nutritious boost. Today, we will look at what typically actually goes into a smoothie. Mamas Move is dedicated helping fellow moms with the prenatal and postnatal exercises, and want you to succeed!

We recommend maximizing your smoothie with healthy, energy boosting ingredients. Deciding what all goes into the mixing cauldron depends on your tastes and preferences. For simple reference, try these simple ingredients:

  • Apples- Rich in antioxidants and fiber, apples take on more than one role. Affordable and delicious, you can throw one in for a plethora of benefits. Some studies have shown that consuming apples during pregnancy also reduces the risk of children in utero developing asthma complications in life.
  • Bananas- This yellow berry is essential for your smoothie. Beyond added benefits for your entire body (heart, digestion, kidneys, etc), bananas provide a great source of energy to help both mom and baby with their fitness plans. Bananas also supply you with a wealth of needed vitamins and nutrients.
  • Coconut Oil- This substance lives in the healthy fats category and is key for weight loss. In essence, this oil boosts your metabolism, utilizing fat for energy. To double down on this emphasis, coconut oil delivers a great, sustained energy level for those prenatal and postnatal exercises.
  • Oats- Your need for fiber and energy can be further boosted from an array of oats. Busy moms can utilize oatmeal to fill up and run. As long as you are filling up on healthy energy then you are on the right path!
  • Strawberries- We have this on the list primarily for delicious taste. However, the benefits of this berry come from its high Vitamin C content, along with a host of other nutrients and vitamins that can boost your workout. Toss a couple into the blender and you’ll be thankful.
  • Protein Supplement- This factor can come in many forms, such as powder derived from whey. Protein powder gives you that extra nudge in the fitness category. To add to this, expecting mothers require above-normal amounts of protein to support healthy development for the baby. This can be considered the first step for healthy habits for mom and baby fitness goals.
  • Sweetener (optional)- A little icing on the cake can make the whole smoothie pop! On top of this is the benefit of making your drink taste better for kids who do not enjoy consuming their fruits and vegetables. Although popular science has stated that certain artificial sweeteners are safe for pregnant women, we would still advise caution and research before choosing.

Smoothies are a useful tool in the fight for living a healthy life. Women who exercise during pregnancy and new mothers who need a little boost can use these delicious drinks to accomplish their fitness goals. Here at Mamas Move we are dedicated to promoting fitness for mom and baby alike and strive to help you. Give us a call today to get on board!

Fueling Your Workout Part 1 Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:49:13 +0000 We get it, you’re busy. Having a child is a full-time job and for those mothers who do work- Consider yourself over employed. Sometimes we all struggle with having any spare energy left to hit the gym. Mamas Move is dedicated to just that: Helping mothers and their young ones develop healthy fitness practices. We even offer mom and baby yoga classes! Today we are writing about the importance of making a delicious pre-workout smoothie to get you amped for your workout.

Proper diet and exercise are the key to post postnatal weight loss (or any weight loss for that matter!).You can also utilize exercise during pregnancy to take a healthy advantage. The essential kit for your healthy concoction includes proteins, carbs, and healthy fats. This trio is optimal for fueling your body with that much-needed energy and they will certainly keep you going for the duration of your workout.

This nutrient is a major building block in achieving a higher level of fitness for both men and women. In basic terms, protein helps with your muscles. This includes supplying the body with energy for your muscles along with the needed healing for restoring them. Equipping your body with the correct amount of protein is essential for general health. Your body utilizes this magic nutrient to produce the chemicals needed to build and maintain every part of your body, down to a molecular level. For all intents and purposes, we’ll just pump the brakes and focus on muscle recovery.

Although it feels counterintuitive, carbs are essential for healthy living. Yes, having too many carbs can be detrimental to your fitness goals. However, utilizing “good” carbohydrates can give the extra boost needed to power through that last set. The act of consuming veggies, fruits, and other healthy sources can actually aid in weight loss. Wait, what? Yes, responsibly consuming high-fiber carbs can help you manage or even lose weight.

Healthy Fats

Following the previous villain, we look at consuming fats to increase fitness health. This entire blog is starting to look like an April Fool’s joke, but I assure you it’s not. Good fats are the focus here. Adding a dose of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats will give you a huge bump in energy, curb your appetite, and generally aid in delivering healthy benefits.

Energy is essential for achieving your goals. Women’s fitness here ranges from expecting mothers looking to keep in shape to new moms with baby questing for a fitness program. having the vitality to accomplish your workout is quite important. Here at Mamas Move, we are focused on supporting and nurturing one another with a community outlook for mothers and children. We help with postnatal exercises for new mommies and offer itsy bitsy yoga classes for your baby. Check in soon to read the next installment in our smoothie extravaganza.
